Just imagine the hustle and bustle here before this beautifully restored old town backdrop. Hosts wearing historical clothing mingle with the public as they all wander between food and craft stands with authentic specialties on offer.
Jugglers perform their tricks, singers are scattered about the area regaling visitors with medieval songs. In the evening, a singing competition takes place by torchlight. Over here, jousting games taking place throughout the day, while in this area visitors will find ring stitching demonstrations and handcrafted medieval fashion on sale. And in addition to all this, a small cattle market will be held on the Saturday.
As in previous years, we hope to invite like-minded organizations to take part, whether holding a tent or table or hosting small workshops. Past popular events or booths have presented demos or workshops of Medieval-style tailoring, shoemaking, and blacksmithing.
The festival will give visitors a multi-layered, lively impression of life in the Middle Ages, and we expect, as before, to attract a fair amount of media attention, leading to strong attendance numbers from both the local region as well as from other states. We expect this event to be beneficial to our organization as a way to bolster our own membership and community support, while also bringing significant income to local restaurants and hotels.
We’ll have a stage set up in the town square for opening events and evening concerts with performances from medieval-inspired bands. Authorities will block off the adjoining streets for the whole week, specifically from A Alley to B Road, as well as southwards towards the smaller plaza. The only traffic that will be allowed in will be vehicles belonging to exhibitors for set-up and take-down. We know from past positive reports that this should work quite smoothly, thanks to our longstanding cooperation with the local authorities, City Hall, and the support of the local community who, as usual, will have been informed in the lead-up to the festival.
We will have approximately 30 porta-potties set up around the festival area, as indicated in the plans provided, and will have also set up the external electrical connections required by booths and stages. The Red Cross will be present each day to provide first aid if and when needed. We will also have our own volunteer-security team as extra support for the hired security personnel, as well as police presence throughout the day. Previous festivals have worked will with the systems we’ve developed, and we expect the same for this year’s event.
